How it works

  1. 01

    Give it the URL

Point the skill at the portfolio you want reviewed. Add a target role, and a password if the site is protected.

  2. 02

It reads like a hiring reviewer

Home, work list, the first project and the one closest to your target role, About and contact. A first scan of about 30 seconds, then a careful pass.

  3. 03

    You get a scored report

Strengths, mistakes, red flags and up to five prioritised fixes, each tied to something on the site.

The score

Out of 100. Weights are this skill's own, informed by UXfolio 2026 rankings. A broken link, or a locked one with no password, scores 0. Each confirmed red flag costs 3 points.

What it judges

Checks follow UXfolio's State of UX Portfolios 2026chapters: First 30 seconds, Format and access, Finding the right project, Inside a case study, NDA work and AI use. The review starts with a first scan of about 30 seconds, then goes deeper. Figures are cited as given.

It only judges what is on the page. Seniority comes from scope and decisions, not polish. A famous client is not proof of quality, and style alone is not proof of AI.

Evidence tags

  • Rendered

Seen on the live page in a browser.

  • Source

Read in the HTML, metadata or text, but not seen rendered.

  • Unverified

Likely but unconfirmed. Listed under Open checks. Never a red flag.

Browser

Use it in Claude.ai

No terminal. Upload the skill in Claude.ai, then review a portfolio in chat. Built for designers who would rather click than type install commands.

  1. 01

    Get the skill folder

Open the pd-portfolio-review folder on GitHub. Download the repo ZIP, then keep only that folder. Zip the folder itself, so the archive opens to a pd-portfolio-review folder with SKILL.md inside.

  2. 02

Turn on code execution in Claude.ai

Go to Settings > Capabilities and enable Code execution and file creation. Skills need this on.

  3. 03

    Upload the ZIP

Open Customize > Skills, click +, then Create skill and Upload a skill. Choose your ZIP file. Toggle pd-portfolio-review on when it appears.

  4. 04

    Ask for a review

Start a chat and paste something like “Review this portfolio: https://yoursite.com”, adding a target role if you have one. Claude should pick up the skill and review the site like a hiring reviewer.

See Anthropic's guide on using skills in Claude.

Evals

Twenty-seven cases adapted from Karl Koch's hiring-manager-bar. They cover access failures, linked credits, password gates and case studies that only load on hover.

Run them by hand: open a case in skills/pd-portfolio-review/evals/, give the skill the request and fixture evidence, then compare the report to what you expect. I haven't automated this yet.

Questions

What if the portfolio is password protected?

Pass the password with the request. Without it, a locked site scores 0 and the review stops until you send access.

Is this affiliated with UXfolio?

No. The skill draws on their published 2026 research. It is an independent reading of that report, not an official UXfolio product.

Which agents does it run on?

Cursor, Claude Code and Codex via the terminal install, or Claude.ai in the browser by uploading the skill ZIP. Same package either way.

What does it judge?

The portfolio as a hiring artefact: access and format; first scan; project choice and cards; thinking and decisions; outcomes and ownership; voice, AI use and visual quality; About, consistency and NDA handling. It does not judge whether you should be hired.

Will it rewrite my case studies?

Only if you ask. The default report names what to change and where. It quotes your site rather than inventing replacement copy.
